Join Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar for the opening its 2018-19 cultural programme, with a talk on heraldry and nobility which is bound to fascinate, as the history of Malta’s nobility is rich in interest and intrigue. In his illustrated lecture about heraldry and nobility in Malta, Dr Charles Gauci will give the reasons for the introduction of titles in Malta, their origins and the status of the nobility today. Dr Gauci will delve into heraldry, showing how a typical coat of arms is composed, and how these differ around the world when compared to Malta. Participants will also hear interesting and amusing anecdotes about Maltese noble families.
Dr Charles Gauci is a semi-retired consultant in pain medicine and a lecturer in human anatomy at the University of Malta. He has been writing about various aspects of the Maltese nobility since the late seventies and signed copies of his latest book ‘The Peerage and Knightage in Malta’ will be on sale after the talk. ‘The Peerage’ is packed with details about Maltese nobility (with information about each title), about the two Maltese Prince-Cardinals, about connections between the British peerage and baronetage and Malta as well as the bone fide foreign titles to be found in Malta.
