Gozo Off the Beaten Track

Start Date & Time: 12/03/2016 - 8:30 am

End Date & Time: 12/03/2016 - 8:30 am

Flimkien Ghal Ambjenjt Ahjar presents its first Heritage Walk in Gozo. This walking tour will shine a light on Gozo’s beauty, unique history and authenticity.

Our tour will begin in Xaghra with a visit to Xerri’s Grotto, one of the two remaining caves found on the Maltese Islands where stalagmites and stalactites can be seen. It is an important site used by geologists to assist in historical dating.
Whilst in Xaghra, we will be guests of a traditional farm, home to one of the last remaining active field windmills on the island. The tour will include the Statue of our Lady of Mercy next to the Plague Hospital and a walk through the oldest part of the village to the Santa Verna prehistoric remains. After lunch at a traditional bakery, the tour will continue via the trackless train through the Xwejni Saltpans, Wied il-Ghasri, the Ta’ Sdieri Area to the Wied il-Mielah coastal window. The tour will end in Gharb, the second oldest parish outside Victoria with a visit to the parish museum.
