Good Friday ceremonies are amongst the most followed and devotional religious festivities held in Malta. Vittoriosa, with its millennial history, is one of the centres where such traditions are very strong. In the past more towns celebrated than one procession, but these were prohibited in the 19th century, and only that from the parish church was allowed to be organised. Yet some traditions from the other processions are still evident in various parts of Malta. The statues that are carried shoulder high during the Good Friday procession are also fascinating, as the figures are robed in rich clothing, something which is particular to this procession. This love and devotion towards Holy Week can also be seen in exhibitions and displays held in various parts of Birgu. Through this tour one will appreciate these centuries-old traditions combined with modern innovations.
